Variables inside regex?

do they work inside regex, seems not... I've placed "(and|or|so)" inside a variable and variable inside regex:

.*,\ {-Variable.key_stopwords-}

So when I execute it treats "(and|or|so)" extracted from variable as a singe value...

Which action did you place it exactly. I did try with search crteria and it worked properly
