Can i store how many characters is in a variable in second numbered variable?

example, there is this Captcha asking me click on captcha till you see 6 letters.
and captcha can have 3 letters, 4 letters, 5 etc..

so what i do is solve captcha and than i have 3 lettered captcha in variable "recognitionresults0"
How can i do second "if logic" or something else? to get in

(how many chars is in variable "recognitionresults0" and than if <6 click on captcha image and restart till condition 6 chars is true)

But... how do i get the characters in variable to number? is it possible?
