Hi everyone,

I’d like to ask for your advice regarding hardware for working with ZennoPoster and ZennoDroid.

On a daily basis I use the i-tec U3ChargeHUB13-2 (specs link) hub, where I connect 10 phones at the same time. In general it works fine, but I constantly have problems with USB cables. I’ve tested many different ones – cheaper and more expensive – but often they turn out to be unreliable. For example, on some phones I get issues like “updating elements tree” freezing, and sometimes the phone discharges faster than it charges. The phones I’m mainly using are Huawei P30 Lite and Samsung A32. I’d really like to buy good, proven USB cables that actually work well for this type of setup.

As for ZennoPoster hardware – right now I’m running a Lenovo Legion laptop, 32 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen7 7000 series, where I simultaneously run:

  • 10 phones on ZennoDroid
  • 10–15 instances in ZennoPoster

Unfortunately, my second laptop (for which I paid around $2000 just one year ago) burned out while working 24/7. I couldn’t use the warranty because I had around 30k Facebook accounts and the same amount of Instagram accounts stored on it, and in case of failure my priority was data recovery rather than repair. I sent it to the best data recovery lab in my country, but they found that some burned components made it impossible to recover the data. As a result, I ended up without a working laptop and without warranty (since the disk components were desoldered during recovery attempts).

Now I’m looking for another machine that would be used only for ZennoPoster, capable of running 25–35 instances at the same time. I’m considering a laptop, PC, or maybe even a used server (though I have no prior experience with servers). My machines usually run 24/7, so stability is a must.

One more thing: I’d prefer to spend as little as possible — I’m not looking to go into ultra-high budget territory. The cheaper but reliable option is more appealing to me.

So I have two main questions:

  1. Which USB cables do you recommend (reliable and tested for working with many phones at once)?
  2. What kind of hardware would you recommend for running 25–35 ZennoPoster instances: laptop, PC, or a used server? If a server – what should I pay attention to when buying one?

Thanks a lot in advance for your tips and recommendations!

I’ve seen the amount of work you’re handling.
First of all, I highly recommend choosing a PC as your primary setup — it offers much better cooling compared to a laptop.

If you plan to run multiple projects on ZennoPoster, RAM should be your top priority — the more, the better.
In my case, running 25–30 threads simultaneously consumes around 100 GB of RAM. Depending on how much RAM you have, you should also choose a CPU that’s powerful enough to avoid any bottlenecks.

Here’s my current setup:

  • 2× Xeon Gold CPUs
  • 128 GB RAM
When running 30 threads non-stop (24/7), it uses about 100 GB of RAM, and CPU usage stays around 30%.

Hi, such operations are not suitable for laptops.
I can't suggest you exact specs since it can vary what exactly what your templates are doing. 20 threads on template x can eat half or even more resources than 20 threads on template y.

But it was always suggested to use Intel-based CPUs, you do server or desktop CPUs is up to you. Both should work fine. Server CPUs like Xenon will cost lot more, but their major advantage will be cores, which ZennoPoster is not using efficiently anyway, and they will cost you a lot more. So going with desktop CPUs like the latest Intel i series will be good.

RAM is not that important if you have well-optimized templates. I read that previous post with 100 GB RAM usage, and I'm more than sure there are lots of unnecessary loops in this guy's templates which build up RAM usage to that crazy level. Or maybe he handles huge amounts of data back and forth, can't possibly know.

So, as you see, it is really hard to suggest anything specific as many tasks will require different hardware. It's not only about thread count.
