Thread count drops

I have a project that starts out great with around 100 threads. Then about 5 minutes into running the thread count drops to between 20 and 60 and never goes higher. What could be causing the drop?

when project starts ram is not fully loaded, and then when threads load into the work, and ram starts building, naturaly your threads number is going down
